Robert Graves

"TO ENLARGE THE LOVE-HOUR THAT REMAINS OUR OWN": ACROSS THE GULF, GRAVES' LATE POEMS, ONE OF ONLY 175 COPIES SIGNED BY BERYL GRAVES AND OTHERS

GRAVES, Robert. Across the Gulf. Late Poems. (Deià, Mallorca): New Seizin Press, 1992. Octavo, original boards, uncut, original glassine. $250.

First edition of this posthumous fine press edition of 14 uncollected poems by Robert Graves, compiled by Beryl Graves, Lucia Graves and Dunstan Ward, hand-set and printed by Tomás Graves, and bound by Carmen García-Gutierrez. This is copy number 52 of only 175 produced, signed by Beryl Graves, Lucia Graves, Dunstan Ward, Tomás Graves, and Carmen García-Gutierrez.

Beginning in 1929, when Graves and his muse and mistress Laura Riding moved there, Graves spent many years of his life in Deià, Mallorca. Not long after arriving, he and Riding established the Seizin Press, largely to produce their own books of poetry. The present volume was coordinated by Graves' widow Beryl, his daughter Lucia (b. 1943) and his son Tomás (b. 1953), and published at Tomás' New Seizin Press, which Tomás established in 1983, producing hand-made books until 2000.
