John Hersey

“CONSIDERED BY SOME AS HERSEY’S FINEST ACHIEVEMENT”

HERSEY, John. The Wall. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1950. Octavo, original green cloth, original dust jacket. $800.

First edition of Hersey’s fifth book and second novel, his gripping tale of the ill-fated Warsaw ghetto uprising. A fine copy.

"Always concerned with social and moral issues, [after the publication of Hiroshima, 1946] Hersey immersed himself in the study of another tragedy of World War II: the destruction of the Warsaw ghetto by the Nazis. The novel that resulted from his study, The Wall, is considered by some as Hersey's finest achievement. Like A Bell for Adano, The Wall was adapted for the stage. In 1982 it was also filmed for television by CBS" (ANB).

Fine condition.
