Early edition of this richly illustrated history of the United States, with over 500 plates and in-text illustrations by Felix O.C. Darley and 12 steel-engraved plates, in handsome publisher's morocco.

Benson J. Lossing wrote and edited over 40 historical and biographical works, most on American history. Much of Volume II is devoted to the Revolutionary War era, and likewise much of Volume III covers the Civil War era. Includes, at the end of Volume III, the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, the Constitution, and Washington's Farewell Address. First published 1876-78. Contemporary ink owner signature.

Interiors generally clean, a bit of rubbing and mild discoloration to boards. An excellent, near-fine copy in handsome publisher's morocco.
