Popism. The Warhol '60s.

Andy Warhol

INSCRIBED AND TWICE SIGNED BY ANDY WARHOL

WARHOL, Andy and HACKETT, Pat. POPism. The Warhol '60s. New York and London: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, (1980). Octavo, original half black cloth, original dust jacket. $1500.

First edition of Warhol's 1980 memoir, with 16 pages of photographic images featuring Warhol and his famous friends, inscribed: "To Yvonne love Andy Warhol," with a symbol scrawled below, and additionally signed on the front panel of the dust jacket.

Warhol wrote this memoir with his frequent collaborator and long-time friend, Pat Hackett. Together, the pair wanted to depict the height of the Pop movement—1960 to 1969—by focusing on Warhol's art and film work. Based largely on the audiotapes that Warhol recorded during the time in question, the work features many anecdotes about celebrities and people who frequented the Factory, Warhol's New York studio. "A vivid re-creation of a great time to live and a great time to die" (Martin Scorsese). The "Yvonne" to whom this copy is inscribed may be Yvonne Rainer, the American dancer, choreographer, and filmmaker, known for her experiments in minimalism. She was one of Warhol's close friends and inspired his famous 1963 film, "Sleep." Small bookseller sticker to front flap of dust jacket.

Book very nearly fine, with a bit of offsetting from inscription to adjacent pages. Dust jacket about-fine, with only mild toning to spine. A lovely inscribed and twice signed copy.
