Steep Ascent

Anne Morrow Lindbergh

INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY CHARLES LINDBERGH, WITH AN AUTOGRAPH POSTCARD SIGNED BY ANNE MORROW LINDBERGH

LINDBERGH, Anne Morrow. The Steep Ascent. New York: Harcourt, Brace, (1944). Octavo, original blue cloth, original dust jacket. $3200.

First edition, inscribed by Charles Lindbergh: "To John Oldrin and Gin Oldrin, from their friend, Charles A. Lindbergh." With an autograph postcard signed "Anne" by Anne Morrow Lindbergh, mentioning "working like mad to get my book into galleys" laid in.

"A fictional account of an actual incident… the story of a dangerous flight over the Alps made by a young couple." The 3-1/2 by 5-1/2-inch postcard, dated "Friday, Dec. 8," is penned entirely by Anne Morrow Lindbergh and reads, "Dear John – Thank you so much for letting me see this. I also liked very much the Hymn to Orion — didn't you? The story of Lucy & the shells given to the sand-baby is enchanting — but not surprising. Lard has a little girl, too, born yesterday. I had to share the news with you. 'Thank heaven for little girls!' In haste — I am working like mad to get my book into galleys before we leave for Aspen & Xmas — gratefully, Anne."

Book fine; dust jacket with two small chips around head of slightly toned spine, extremely good.
