Bring Me a Unicorn

Anne Morrow Lindbergh

"THE EARLY EXCITEMENT OF FLYING IN THE EARLY DAYS": FIRST EDITION OF BRING ME A UNICORN, BEAUTIFULLY INSCRIBED BY ANNE MORROW LINDBERGH

LINDBERGH, Anne Morrow. Bring Me a Unicorn. Diaries and Letters of Anne Morrow Lindbergh 1922-1928. New York: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1972. Octavo, original blue cloth, facsimile autograph endpapers, original dust jacket. $1100.

First edition, second printing, of Anne Morrow Lindbergh's highly praised early memoir, beautifully inscribed on the title page to her close neighbors and friends, "For Jinny and John Oldrin (The beginning of an old story: The introduction may amuse you and the early excitement of flying the early days) with warm feelings and neighborliness, from Anne," featuring 24 pages of illustrations.

Bring Me a Unicorn won immediate praise on publication as "a remarkable gathering together of her early diaries and letters… one of the great stories of the 20th century" (New York Times). Lindbergh's engaging and often moving memoir begins at age 16 and ends with her words from a 1928 letter, "Apparently I am going to marry Charles Lindbergh." With "First Edition" on copyright page, and letters beginning with "B." John Oldrin and Jinny Oldrin were neighbors and friends of the Lindberghs. John Oldrin was the president of Darien Library in Darien Connecticut, where the Lindberghs had a home.

A fine inscribed copy.
