INSCRIBED BY GERALD R. FORD

FORD, Gerald R. A Time to Heal. (New York): Harper & Row/Reader's Digest, (1979). Octavo, original blue cloth, original dust jacket. $1200.

First trade edition of President Ford's memoirs, inscribed: "To Herb Yellin, with best regards. Gerald R. Ford." Recipient Herb Yellin was the founder and publisher of Lord John Press, which specialized in signed limited editions of American authors, including several by President Ford.

The 38th President's memoirs are "at once the autobiography of a political career and the human story of a dedicated but unassuming man propelled by history into taking on the immense burdens of the Presidency," with a special emphasis on Ford's decision to pardon Nixon and the transition of power between the two. Recipient Herb Yellin's Lord John Press published several of Ford's books in signed limited editions in the 1980s, including A Vision for America (1980), Global Security (1981), Churchill Lecture (1984), and The Tenth Convention (1988). Illustrated with 16 pages of black-and-white photographs. Also issued in a signed limited edition of 250 copies. With laid-in typed letter signed by recipient Yellin, stating that this copy "was signed in my presence at Rancho Mirage, Calif. in [Ford's] office."

A fine inscribed copy.
