Principles of Money and Banking

Charles A. Conant

FIRST EDITION OF CONANT'S TWO-VOLUME THE PRINCIPLES OF MONEY AND BANKING, 1905

CONANT, Charles A. The Principles of Money and Banking. New York and London: Harper & Brothers, (1905). Two volumes. Octavo, original brown cloth, cloth spine labels. $1250.

First edition of this important two-volume economics treatise on money and banking, the underpinnings of any financial system.

"There has not appeared heretofore, at least in the English language, a Principles of Money and Banking with quite so wide a scope as the new two-volume work just published by Mr. Conant. The first volume contains three books on money, the second, three on banking" (Whitaker, Political Science Quarterly, 332-35). Originally a journalist, Conant became one of the first economists to promote speculation on organized stock exchanges. He believed that the stock market prices accurately reflected value and saw the trends as reflecting legitimate economic change. He believed that his own work on money and banking could serve to inform investors and make them powerful market actors who would, through their learning, be sufficiently educated to engage in speculation.

Very nearly fine condition.
