Christina's World; Wyeth at Kuerners

Andrew Wyeth

ONE OF ONLY 200 COPIES SIGNED BY ANDREW AND BETSY WYETH

(WYETH, Andrew) WYETH, Betsy James. Christina's World. WITH: Wyeth at Kuerners. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 1976, 1982. Two volumes. Folio (13-1/2 by 10-1/2 inches), original half tan morocco gilt, linen boards. Housed together in original linen slipcase. $2700.

Signed limited first editions of these lavishly illustrated studies by Andrew Wyeth on two of his most famous subjects, number 65 of only 200 sets, signed by Wyeth and the author, his wife Betsy James Wyeth in each volume.

"With watercolor, you can pick up the atmosphere, the temperature, the sound of snow shifting through the trees or over the ice of a small pond or against a windowpane. Watercolor perfectly expresses the free side of my nature" (Andrew Wyeth). The text, preparatory sketches, watercolors and temperas of Christina's World trace the artist's long relationship with his model Christina Olson, culminating in Wyeth's famous painting "Christina's World" (1948). Likewise, Wyeth at Kuerners reproduces hundreds of sketches and paintings made at the Kuerner family farm over the course of 44 years. Scores of the paintings and sketches collected in these two volumes had never been reproduced before.

Faint foxing to first few leaves in each volume, including limitation pages. Plates clean, bindings fine. A lovely copy.
