First edition of this compilation of ancient British sports and pastimes, illustrated with 12 hand-colored copper-engraved plates, plus wood engravings within the text, handsomely bound by Bayntun.

With a small section on golf at page 217, captioned at the top of the page "Goff, or Bandy-Ball." Also includes chapters on jousts and other military exercises, hawking and hunting, plays and masques, minstrels, fools and jugglers, coronations and pageants, Christmas gambols and May games.

Boards ever so slightly bowed. A lovely volume in fine condition.
