George Eliot

“A SUPREME NOVELIST IN THE AGE OF GREAT NOVELISTS”

ELIOT, George. Works. New York: Jenson Society, 1910. Twenty volumes. Small octavo, contemporary three-quarter navy morocco, raised band, elaborately gilt-decorated spines, patterned endpapers, top edges gilt, uncut. $3250.

Limited edition of Eliot’s novels, number 454 of only 1000 sets, with numerous illustrations, including hand-colored frontispieces in each volume, very handsomely bound.

Eliot, who pioneered the method of psychological analysis characteristic of modern fiction, has been praised for the qualities that make her "a supreme novelist in an age of great novelists: her penetrating sympathy, her deep knowledge of humanity, her dramatic and descriptive power, her lambent humor, and the reflection of her extraordinary mind" (Kunitz & Haycraft, 212).

Expert repairs to a few joints and spine ends. A handsome set.
