...and Autumn Came

Rod Mckuen

INSCRIBED IN THE YEAR OF PUBLICATION BY ROD MCKUEN

MCKUEN, Rod. …and Autumn Came. New York and Los Angeles: Cheval, (1969). Quarto, original cream cloth, paper cover label, original cloth box. $750.

Signed limited edition of McKuen's first book of poems, revised from the 1954 first edition, number 205 of an unknown limitation signed by Rod McKuen, wonderfully illustrated by Anthony Goldschmidt and bound in deluxe publisher's cloth, in scarce original cloth box, additionally inscribed in the year of publication by McKuen: "For Enid & Bob—with appreciation & with thanks—Rod—Nov 26, 1969."

"The poems and songs of Rod McKuen express a bittersweet, aching tenderness towards life that has endeared him to millions of fans. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, he was perhaps the most popular poet in the United States… McKuen's poetry is unpretentious and accessible to the average reader… The thoughtfulness and sense of wonder in McKuen's poetry account for its popularity. Moreover, it captures the anxieties and aspirations of the youth movement that came into flower in the mid-1960s" (GLBTQ Arts). The first edition was published in 1954; this edition was substantially revised from that edition. McKuen's warm inscription was to Robert Cohen—a sales representative at Knopf—and his wife.

Slight toning to box. Book fine. An exceptional signed copy with additional inscription.
