Alderton visited New South Wales, Australia with the permission of the New Zealand government in 1884 to learn about orange cultivation. This work is the result of his studies and attempts to offer New Zealand farmers a foothold on their own shores. Alderton promises that, given sufficient effort and suitable land, the orange will prove to be the most profitable crop a farmer can grow. Early title page owner signature.
