Typed letter signed by Margaret Mitchell, denying the possibility of her going on a lecture tour, written the year Gone With the Wind was published.

The typed letter, on Mitchell's letterhead, reads in its entirety: "September 5, 1936. Dear Mrs. Simpson: Thank you for your letter and your interest. No, I am not contemplating any lecture tour. In fact, I have turned down many invitations to speak. I do not intend ever to make any speeches, for I realize that writing books and making speeches are two very different affairs. Sincerely, [signed] Margaret Mitchell." Gone With the Wind had been published less than four months earlier; by September, it had already been reprinted ten times.
