Splendid illustrated edition of one of Tanizaki’s best stories, number 21 of only 300 copies signed by photographer Eikoh Hosoe and calligrapher Shunkei Yahagi.

With three lovely photogravures after photographs by world-renowned photographer Hosoe, each illustrating the heroine Shunkin "as she might appear in her varied moods at crucial episodes of the story." Originally published as Shunkinsho in 1933. Translated by Howard Hibbett, who has translated many of Tanizaki's stories. Beautifully printed on cotton-rag Arches paper, the whole handsomely bound in Japanese cloth.

A splendid production in fine condition.
