"One of the great books on Salmon fishing" (Gee, 100). The Restigouche River (known as Ristigouche in French) is known as one of the best salmon-fishing rivers in the world. It forms the dividing line between New Brunswick and Quebec and flows into Chaleur Bay. In this work American fishing enthusiast Dean Sage (1841-1902) summarizes the geography and history of the Restigouche area before dealing with the habits of the salmon and the history of local fishing clubs. Illustrated with aquatint title page partly printed in red and aquatint frontispiece after G. Reid by Annan and Swan, 16 etched plates after and by Stephen Parrish (father of Maxfield Parrish), Mrs. A. L. Merritt, C. A. Platt, H. Sandham and others, along with 63 etched, engraved and wood-engraved headpieces, tailpieces, initials, vignettes and other ornaments, and double-page lithographed map, all finely reproduced in this facsimile. In addition to the signed color plates, this facsimile adds an Introduction by Arnold Gingrich and "A Notice of Dean Sage" by Dewitt Sage. Bookplate.

Fine condition.
