Hawkes Pocket Scores edition, inscribed on the title page, "Pour mon ami / P / From the AARON / * / ("towards grandeur") / Harper and Row."

"For the opening of Philharmonic Hall at Lincoln Center, New York, Copland composed Connotations (1962). To listeners and critics at its first performance this piece seemed to reveal Copland as a follower of new trends" (Grove 4:721). Bernstein, who collaborated frequently with Copland, conducted the premiere. The recipient of this copy was Phillip Ramey, a composer and writer who was also one of Copland's closest friends.
