INSCRIBED BY JOHN F. KENNEDY: PROFILES IN COURAGE

KENNEDY, John F. Profiles in Courage. New York: Harper & Brothers, (1957). Octavo, original black and blue cloth, original dust jacket. Housed in a custom clamshell box.

First edition, later printing, of Kennedy’s best-known book, inscribed by him, “To P—- C—-, with the very best wishes of his friend—John Kennedy.”

"A series of sketches of American politicians who risked their careers in the cause of principle… 'A man does what he must,' Kennedy wrote, — in spite of personal consequences, in spite of obstacles and dangers and pressures— and that is the basis of all human morality'… the book was popular history of high order, and it received the Pulitzer Prize for biography in 1957" (DAB). Later printing, with A-G on the copyright page (January, 1957). First published in 1956.

Book fine, inscription bold, signature clear. Bright lovely dust jacket near-fine, with only minor rubbing and soiling and very shallow chipping to edges. A most desirable inscribed copy.
