A three-quarter-length, seated portrait of Grant in uniform, signed beneath the image. “Mathew Brady helped create, collect, and preserve a majority of the Civil War images and important political figures of the day. Thousands of his glass plate negatives are in the National Archives in Washington, DC” (ANB).
