“HIS FERTILITY AND INVENTION IS WITHOUT PARALLEL”: WONDERFUL ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH, INSCRIBED BY DUKE ELLINGTON
ELLINGTON, Duke. Photograph inscribed. [New York: William Morris Agency, 1943]. Original publicity photograph.
Vintage publicity photograph of Duke Ellington, boldly inscribed, “To Edith, good luck, Duke Ellington.”
This photograph was featured on the cover for a program of one of Ellington’s most memorable 1943 concerts at Carnegie Hall, which began (appropriately enough for a wartime concert) with “The Star Spangled Banner” and moved through a cavalcade of the band’s greatest arrangements and solo features. Ellington’s 1943 performances at Carnegie Hall were stunning portraits of America’s greatest orchestra at the peak of its powers.
Fine condition.
