Original printed publicity illustration of Campanella from his time with the Brooklyn Dodgers, inscribed: “Best Wishes to Joe. Roy Campanella.”
The illustration shows Campanella tensed and ready to go after an unseen ball, wearing a glove on one hand with his catcher’s mask dangling off the other. Called “the best catcher in the business” by Paul Richards, Campanella was a star in the Negro Leagues and for the Brooklyn Dodgers before his career was tragically cut short by a paralyzing auto accident.
