LINCOLN, Abraham. Emancipation Proclamation. Washington, circa January 5, 1863.

One of earliest official printings of Lincoln’s final Emancipation Proclamation, the State Department circular letter edition (Eberstadt No. 11), “printed for dissemination to the foreign service posts of the Department of State.” Exceedingly rare—one of only three known copies of this edition complete with its transmittal letter. This is the fourth separately-printed edition, one of the earliest obtainable printings of the final version, issued only a few days after the Proclamation became law on January 1, 1863.
